To love beauty is to see light.

In late 2007, after weeks of intense headaches, I suddenly became blind. Confused and scared, I was rushed to the doctor. They ran an MRI and some blood tests. I had to wait the longest hour of my life for the results. When the doctor returned, he informed me that the blindness was caused by a large tumor that was resting on my optic nerve. He then referred me to see a neurosurgeon.

I had to wait a few days until the neurosurgeon could see me. Waiting those few days was a struggle; I lost my eyesight and with that all my freedom was taken away from me. I had to rely on my family to feed me, cloth me, and take me from place to place. My family was so amazing, and never left my side.

After seeing the neurosurgeons, they told me and my family that the procedure was very risky and that there was a good chance that I may never see again. My mom broke down crying. I wanted to do the same, but I knew I had to be strong for her and the rest of my family. But inside I was terrified.

After much thought, I decided to have the surgery. The risk was great, but I knew at least with the surgery I had a chance of seeing again. It was an eight hour surgery. The only part of the surgery that I remember is feeling a sense of peace like everything was going to be alright.

After a full night’s sleep, I woke to the sound of my surgeon’s voice. "What time is it?” She asked. As I looked across the room, I saw the dim light of the clock. My vision slowly began to focus more and I started to see the time on the clock that read 6:30 am. I yelled, "I can see!" With the same excitement my surgeon screamed, "He can see!" The surgery was a success!

This experience not only changed me physically but spiritually as well. I wouldn’t know it until a few years later, but the peace I felt before going into surgery was God. He not only restored my physical sight to me but since then has opened my eyes to see that He is the true Light. The song Amazing Grace puts it perfectly, "Was blind, but now I see." I have a new appreciation for what God has put on this world for us to enjoy. I no longer take for granted the things that I never noticed before- that there is beauty in everything- and I love to capture it. I thank God for giving me this experience.

Shortly after recovering from the surgery, I knew I was going to pick up photography. It had always been a hobby but now it has become a passion. It is my honor and calling to be able to be your photographer and to share the Light. Please Contact me for more information on pricing and any other questions that you may have.
